Pastor Barbara T. Ratcliff is the eldest of six sibling's.  She grew up during the civil rights and steel industry era in the little community of Fairfield, Alabama, which is just west of Birmingham.  She received both her secular and Christian education  in the Fairfield community where she graduated from E.J. Oliver High and for some twenty seven years was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

She received a BS degree from Alabama A&M University and an MS Degree from the University of Tennessee Martin.  She has also done post-graduate studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Tennessee State University.

For many years she lived in west Tennessee (Gibson county) where she was the county extension agent for the Department of Agriculture.  There she worked with youth from low-income families teaching healthy nutrition , meal preparation, and good hygiene.  In addition she trained twelve para-professionals who taught nutrition to low-income adults in the community.  This gave her countless opportunities to work directly with families in crisis economically, as well as emotionally. 

Upon returning to Birmingham, Alabama she entered a career as a restaurant manager, but soon found that her true passion was in working with families.  After a short time she went on to enter a sixteen career year with the Department of Human Resources as a Social Worker.  Over the years, she worked with thousands of families in crisis, providing intervention, counseling, and reunification.   As a Social Worker she received countless hours of in-house and on the job training in counseling. 

She ended a failed marriage, after herself becoming a victim of emotional and physical abuse.  She made the decision to help others recognize the red flags and pitfalls often overlooked during courtship.  The book and workbook are written in a way that outlines Biblical principals for marriage and provides a guidelines to help individuals learn more about themselves and future mates.  The books may be used for pre-marital counseling, as a self study guide, or in conjunction with other pre-marital resources.  The books will prove to be invaluable because unlike counseling the books are a tangible resourse which can become a part of the family library for future reference.   

Pastor Ratcliff began pastoring in April of 1997, as the senior pastor of Guiding Light Ministries.  She currently, pastors Sword of The Spirit Church, Int. since May of 2007.  The church is located in historic Ensley ( a Birmingham neighborhood).  

A gifted Bible teacher, and conference host Pastor Ratcliff has been a guest of Trinity Broadcasting Network, Frasher United Methodist Church Television Network, Channel 13 noonday broadcast, as well as, hosting her own TV and radio broadcast. 

Her primary goal is to reach as many singles, newlyweds, and veteran couples with the truth of God's Word as it relates to marriage and daily living!
